Plainsboro Baseball

Plainsboro had two teams that participated in the Twin-M baseball league from 1936 - 1951, including serveral trips to the championship game. These teams were Plainsboro (mostly potato farmers) and Walker-Gordon (employees of W/G)

Judge John K. Holohan

President of the "Twin-M" League from 1936 to 1941 and 1946.
Pictured in his house/office across from the Walker-Gordon field. He served as Judge in Plainsboro from 1934 to 1954. He was the one who instituted the "3 mile rule" in 1940, meaning you had to live within 3 miles of your team. The idea was to eliminate "ringers" (players brought in from outside to play for your team). He also made the decision in 1946 that led the Cranbury team to forfeit the playoffs to Walker-Gordon. Photo is dated early 1950's.

Alexander "Ollie" Boyko

Shown here wearing a 1936-1940 Plainsboro Uniform.
He was one of the premier players in the "Twin-M" league. Here we see him in his Plainsboro uniform. We do not have an actual uniform. We do not know what the "A. C." stood for but we assume that it was "Athletic Club". The 1936 articles in the New Brunswick Home News called them the Plainsboro A.A. so this could be 1936.

Plainsboro, Walker Gordon and Twin-M League Records

Aerial View of the Walker-Gordon Baseball Field, circa 1949

The field had unusual dimensions as you can see - a short left field and long right field. According to Chris Christianson, who played on the Cranbury team, there were no specific ground rules in effect for the lack of a fence. We have stories of baseballs hitting the office in left field. This field is shown with a dirt infield. The distances ( we measured them) were: left field=220 feet, center field= 312 feet and right field=400 feet.
The photo is circa 1949
